Constance Pascua was the first baby welcomed into Pioneers Memorial Hospital in Brawley for the new year.

She is the daughter of Amber Wagner and Max Pascua, both of Imperial. Her big sister, Serenity Pascua, is 15 months old.

The 6-pound, 9-ounce baby was delivered at 1:06 a.m. Monday by Dr. Wynton Shaw.

Her grandparents are Dorotheo and Brenda Pascua of Holtville and Abe and Rene Delacerta of Twentynine Palms.

Having a New Year's baby was "totally unplanned" said Wagner.

"She has her father's nose and forehead," she said.

At El Centro Regional Medical Center little Russell Angel Hueso arrived at 8:44 a.m. Monday. He is the son of Ramon and Angelica Hueso, also of Imperial. Russell was delivered by Dr. Elias Moukarzel in the absence of Angelica's regular doctor, Dr. Stephen Gocke. Russell will be welcomed home by siblings Ramon, 8, and Iris Angelica, 7.

His grandparents are Ramon and Antonia Ramirez of Imperial and Ramon and Isidra Hueso of Calexico.

"The baby was a surprise," said the father, Ramon Hueso, "a nice new year surprise. It is my wife's birthday. I am happy because I can have just one party to take care of both of them from now on."

Mama Angelica, still a little groggy from her recent Caesarean section delivery, said she was "really happy" with her third child.

The Huesos just found out Russell means red hair. Little Russell's is coal black.

The parents of both babies will receive numerous gifts from the hospitals.
