21 packages of pot, stashed in duffel bag, seized by BP agents

CALEXICO — U.S. Border Patrol agents seized 56.85 pounds of marijuana about 1.7 miles east of Calexico about 10:30 p.m. Tuesday.

According to a press release, a Border Patrol agent observed one individual jump the border fence, run toward a waiting vehicle and place a large duffel bag inside the passenger side.

When agents attempted to conduct a vehicle stop, the driver of the vehicle drove back to the border, abandoned the vehicle and fled back into Mexico.

A duffel bag with 21 individually wrapped packages totaling 56.85 pounds of marijuana was found inside the vehicle

The marijuana and the vehicle were turned over to the Imperial County Sheriff's Office.
