Voice: For farmers, any farm labor wage is too high

January 06, 2001

So the local Farm (Burros) Bureau is once more against raising the workers' wages ($6.25). Twenty-five years ago farm workers protected by the United Farm Workers AFL-CIO were earning $7 per hour.

If the growers were paying $2 an hour today, they would still think it was too much. After all, most farm workers are Mexicans and they don't need much money to buy frijoles and tortillas.
