BRAWLEY — Despite holding a 1-0 halftime lead, the Brawley Union High School boys soccer team fell 2-1 to Cathedral City here Friday.
Carlos Mejia staked the Wildcats to a lead in the 20th minute of the first half when he scored off a pass from Alfredo Campos. Brawley carried the lead in at the break, but Cathedral City scored twice in the second half.
The Wildcats had a chance to tie the game with three minutes left but Noel Meza missed a penalty kick.
"We played with a lot of intensity and emotion in the first half," said Brawley coach Frank Felix. "We failed to do the same thing in the second half."
The Wildcats (3-5-3) next play at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 16 at home against Calexico.
