Two suffer minor injuries in crash on way to work

January 11, 2001

BRAWLEY — A Heber man and his El Centro passenger sustained minor injuries on their way to work this morning when the sport-utility vehicle in which they were traveling went off the road north of here.

Rigoberto Gonzalez, 21, of Heber and his passenger Omar Tapia, 39, of El Centro were on Brandt Road north of Walker Road about 5:10 this morning when Gonzalez's vehicle ran off the road while it was raining. The vehicle rolled over onto the dirt shoulder of the road, but the men were wearing seat belts and sustained only minor injuries, according to California Highway Patrol Officer Jason Burke.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.

Both men were taken to Pioneers Memorial Hospital in Brawley, where they were being treated this morning.
