Voice: Everyone should sympathize with the loss of someone's child in canals

January 13, 2001

I was raised a macho and taught only women and children cry. Then I lost my 3 1/2 year old child 27 years ago and in seclusion I still cry.

I also sympathize with those of you who experienced such a big pain because I know no bigger pain in life exists.

I pray that those of you who have not experienced this pain go to heaven ahead of your children. But God will continue to pick his special flowers for his throne and some of you who have not experienced this tremendous pain will. Believe me, I sympathize with you also.

I also sympathize with the parents who were happy their kids were seeking a better life here in the U.S.A. but instead drowned in the All-American Canal and will continue to do so if we don't go into action and stop the deaths.

I cannot understand the ideology of the anti-immigration folks is above the value of life. I'm sure the majority of them are believers in the good God and their God's teachings. Then why is the anti-immigration folks' resentment so great, overpowering the meaning of life?

I am not a softy. I was trained in the destruction of human life in the U.S. military and to put up with hardship and discomfort.
