Heffernan Memorial Hospital District trustees set special meeting to discuss board vacancies

January 16, 2001|By RICHARD MONTENEGRO, Staff Writer

CALEXICO — The Heffernan Memorial Hospital District Board of Trustees will have a special session at 6 p.m. Wednesday in Calexico Hospital to discuss board vacancies.

The board will discuss filling a vacancy left by Cindy Aguilar, whose resignation from the board was accepted by her fellow trustees Jan. 3.

Following that meeting the county clerk's office was notified of the vacancy as well as the hospital board's intent to fill the seat through appointment.

Since then, notices soliciting applicants for the board appointment have been posted throughout the district for 15 days, in accordance with state government codes.

Information wasn't available this morning on how many Calexico residents have applied for Aguilar's vacant seat.

Meanwhile, the hospital board will consider adopting a resolution acknowledging another vacancy on the board as of a result of Trustee Jack Anderson's failure to attend board meetings.

The board could have acted Jan. 3 but opted to allow Anderson the opportunity to resign.

According to the state health and safety codes, if an elected official fails to attend three of more consecutive regular meetings or three of five consecutive special meetings his or her term shall expire.

Anderson's last recorded attendance at a district meeting was in October. Information on whether he has resigned from the board was not available.

The hospital board oversees decisions regarding the long-closed Calexico Hospital, at the corner of Blair Avenue and Highway 98.
