Brawley man held for allegedly hitting officer after pursuit

January 16, 2001

BRAWLEY — Police here arrested a man who allegedly punched a police officer after a short pursuit through the city Monday.

Toby Reyes, 31, of Brawley was booked into county jail on suspicion of fleeing a peace officer and battery. He posted bail this morning.

Brawley police Lt. Henry Graham said an officer spotted Reyes driving recklessly on Main Street at 3 p.m.

When that officer attempted to stop Reyes, a pursuit lasting several minutes occurred. The pursuit ended when Reyes pulled into his residence in the 300 block of Mansfield Road.

Officers then tried to take Reyes into custody, but he reportedly refused and a scuffle erupted during which one officer sustained minor injuries.
