Entrance fee to parks reduced

January 21, 2001

NORTH SHORE — The California park system reduced entrance fees at more than 200 state parks on Jan. 1. That includes the Salton Sea State Recreation Area.

As of Jan. 1 camping fees at the Salton Sea SRA were dropped from a high of $14 to $12 for a "developed" site and from $20 to $18 for a campsite with full hookups. The "second vehicle" fee has been eliminated, as have fees for dogs.

Day-use fees also have seen a reduction at the Salton Sea SRA: entrance to spend the day at the park is reduced from $5 to $3 per car. Boat launch fees that were $5 have been eliminated. So a full day of boating, fishing, hiking trails or enjoying the beaches at the Salton Sea SRA for a car load of people now costs a maximum of $3.

Those age 62 or older will receive an additional $1 off day-use and $2 off camping.
