50 years ago — Norman Nevraumont, field representative for the California Youth Authority, was in El Centro on Monday to help start a countywide coordinating council for health and welfare work.

40 years ago — El Centro's special census will begin Tuesday, it was announced today by Mayor Wallace Tow. Verno L. Miller of the U.S. Census Bureau has been assigned to supervise the recount.

30 years ago — The world famous Harlem Globetrotters will bring their show to the Central Union High School gymnasium at 8 p.m. Monday. Tickets are $2 for adults and $1 for children.

20 years ago — An Arizona businessman was arrested in Holtville after undercover agents allegedly made a deal for 10 ounces of heroin valued at $250,000. Imperial County Narcotics Task Force Commander Ernest Halcon said the arrest of the suspect and other two men culminated a lengthy investigation by the Department of Justice and San Bernardino police.
