CALEXICO — Four people were taken to the hospital with minor injuries resulting from a two-car collision at Highway 111 and McCabe Road on Wednesday.

The 3:05 p.m. accident occurred when Calexico resident César P. Serna, 22, reportedly turned left from northbound 111 to westbound McCabe in front of a vehicle being driven by Yuma resident Loretta A. Fisher, 58, according to a report from the California Highway Patrol.

"(Serna) was unable to see southbound traffic due to a big rig making a left turn from southbound 111 to eastbound McCabe Road," the report states. "(Serna) proceeded forward onto westbound McCabe Road but failed to observe (Fisher) was at a very close distance. (Fisher) was unable to stop and collided with the rear right end of (Serna's vehicle).

"Both vehicles sustained major damage," the CHP reported.

Passengers in the Fisher vehicle were Helena, Mont., residents Helmer K. Stenback, 66, and Jenny Stenback, 67.

All four people involved in the accident were taken to Pioneers Memorial Hospital in Brawley.
