50 years ago — Winterhaven may not be the largest community in Imperial County but it certainly has the greatest percentage of its residents interested in civil defense. Between 50 to 60 people turned out last night for a civil defense meeting — representing nearly all families in the area.

40 years ago — A fire swept through the J.M. Roth Co. at State and East 4th streets in El Centro Sunday morning, causing a reported $75,000 in damage to cartons used by growers to pack lettuce.

30 years ago — Superior Court orders restraining the number of United Farm Workers Organizing Committee pickets at an asparagus field belonging to Abatti Produce Co. were served by Imperial County Sheriff's deputies. The order permits 15 pickets on each side of the field with the pickets to be 30 feet apart.

20 years ago — Saturday will be "Pride" day in Holtville with organizations in town picking up trash and putting a spit and polish on the town for the February Carrot Festival.
