CALEXICO — The Methadone Clinic of Imperial Valley here will host an open house from 1 to 7 p.m. Thursday to celebrate its 27th anniversary.
The clinic opened its doors in 1974 to medically treat those Imperial County residents addicted to heroin.
Clinic manager Lupe Acuña said this morning the open house is intended to celebrate those years of service to the community as well as reacquaint the treatment center with the legal and law enforcement communities.
She said in light of state Proposition 36, which will see some $120 million spent throughout the state and $500,000 locally for drug-treatment programs, the legal and law enforcement communities need to be made aware of the shift from incarceration to treatment for non-violent drug offenders.
