In regard to the letter from Tina Reyes about the treatment of her brother during an arrest I would like to respond. Hypothetically I would like to offer the following:
Sometimes good citizens report reckless drivers on our streets endangering the public. Sometimes we can locate these drivers. Sometimes these drivers fail to pull over and even drive "several miles" to their homes. Sometimes these people fail to follow orders of police officers. Sometimes weapons are found inside vehicles. Sometimes shovels are picked up in people's hands. Sometimes people fight when officers are trying to take them into custody. Sometimes officers are struck and injured when trying to make lawful arrests. Sometimes drug paraphernalia is found inside vehicles.
And, yes, sometimes police officers do want reasonable raises. And, yes, sometimes I wonder why any of us does this for what we here are paid. Sometimes.
