Soccer: Spartan girls win

IMPERIAL — Jackie Morton shut out the Imperial Tigers, helping the Central Union High School girls soccer team to a 1-0 win here Thursday.

Sylvia Muñoz's goal was more than enough for Morton, who was aided by the solid defense of Ana Guerrero and her sister, Stormie Morton.

The Spartans improved to 6-8 and will be back in action at 3:15 today at home in El Centro against Calexico. Imperial next plays at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at home against Calexico.

Southwest 4, Holtville 1

HOLTVILLE — The Southwest High School girls soccer team evened its Imperial Valley League record with a 4-1 win over Holtville High here Thursday.


Scoring for the Eagles (2-2 IVL) were Rosa Saldaña, Diana Lopez, Carmen Fierro and April Ramirez.

Both teams return to the field at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday with Southwest traveling to Brawley and the Vikings taking on Central Union in El Centro.

Boys soccer

Imperial 4, Julian 0

JULIAN — Jaime Agredano scored three goals to lead the Imperial boys soccer team past Julian 4-0 in Desert Mountain League action here Thursday.

Ben Item added a goal and assisted on all of Agredano's scores for the Tigers who improve to 6-3, 3-0 DML with the win.

Imperial will be back in action at 3:15 p.m. Tuesday at home against Mountain Empire.
