January 30, 2001

Grace Smith School would like to thank the following people and organizations for making the first half of our school year a raving success. We are fortunate to have supportive individuals in this community who volunteer their time and energy to the children of this Valley.

As the principal at Grace Smith School I recognize the importance of caring individuals who get involved to help the schools of our Valley. I will start by thanking the Grace Smith Community Club and its president, Sandra Hernandez, for putting on a great fall carnival. We would like to thank the following businesses and people for donating prizes to the raffle at this event: Fantastic Sam's — shampoo and conditioner, 3 Day Blinds — blind cleaner, Robbie's Floor Covering — $250 gift certificate, Jordan's Implement — toy tractor, Palm Garden — dinner for two, Jesse's Barber Shop — free haircut, The Fair Store — $20 gift certificate, Party 4 Less — piñata, Jackie's Restaurant — two chicken dinners, United Food Center — kerosene lamp, Niland Club Café — two shrimp dinners, Wal-Mart — $25 gift certificate, R&W Ranches — two 10-gallon guava trees, Zendejas Hardware — 10-gallon tree, SoCo Mini Mart — case of soda, Nellie Perez — Perceive gift set and Christina Aguilera doll, I.V. Restaurant — gift certificate, Balloons & Gifts — balloon bouquet, Costco — salad and rolls, Elm's Equipment Rentals for providing all of the lighting, Glenn Sampson for running the bingo, Alfonso Romero for running the costume contests and Heaven Fisher for her diligent work finding sponsors and donations.

Grace Smith School would like to offer special thanks to Bill Brandt for donating over 500 pounds of beef to help our school and community. Mr. Brandt has always been very supportive of this Valley and we should all be thankful we have wonderful, caring individuals like him who go out of their way to help our children. Grace Smith School was very fortunate to have Jimmy Copeland do all of our cooking. He again showed us why he is one of the best cooks in this Valley.

Grace Smith School would like to thank Mrs. Diana Peacher for her hard work in the Niland Family Resource Center this past year. She has worked diligently with the school and community to make Niland a better and safer place. Mrs. Peacher has worked closely with Calipatria State Prison, CalEnergy, Costco, Wal-Mart and Rite Aid to provide donations and financial support for Grace Smith School's positive rewards program. This program has been instrumental in promoting discipline and good behavior.

A special acknowledgment goes to Swen Nater and the Costco organization for providing our school with endless support, generous donations and a helping hand to make Grace Smith School a valuable place for our children to learn. Their generosity has been a blessing and we can't thank them enough for caring about our school.

Before I close, I must thank the entire staff at Grace Smith School. Their professionalism and compassion for this community is unmatched. These dedicated individuals have created an uplifting environment that has improved the school and its performance over the past 18 months. We are a school that continues to grow and with supporters like the aforementioned list there is no mystery why we are improving.
