Voice: Inaugural parade protests a truly American thing

January 31, 2001

Recently, a letter to Voice of the People complained about the behavior of the protesters along the new president's parade route. Protesting is a time-honored tradition in the U.S. For all we know, it was part of the festivities. The darn thing had to be thrown together in three weeks.

Speaking of throwing, I think the egg thrown at the president's limo was in bad taste. Maybe it was a disgruntled lobbyist from the National Egg Board. But the orange, it was a statement. Observers said it had that "Florida orange" stamp. C-SPAN said it was a navel, you know, the oranges with that dimpled indentation. Hey, it says somewhere, "Reap what you sow."
