Valley racers compete in Laughlin

LAUGHLIN, Nev. — Local racers competed with 191 drivers in 17 classes at the SCORE Laughlin race here recently.

Brawley's Rick Taylor took home first place and $3,000 for jumping his Ford Ranger 100 feet 5 inches to win the small truck division of the Laughlin Leap competition.

Holtville's Josh Waddell finished sixth in the unlimited buggies race with a combined time of 2 hours, 5 minutes and 41 seconds.

In the pro truck class Heber's Steve and Matt Scaroni finished fifth after suffering a flat tire during Sunday' race, which dropped their combined time to 2:05.53 seconds.

In class 12-1,600, El Centro's Tom Watson ended up in 14th place among 30 entries in the tough limited engine class.

Three other Valley racers were in the mix but due to mechanical failures did not finish the two-day event.
