NORTH SHORE — The Salton Sea Recreation Area and Yuma River Tours have again teamed to offer jet boat tours of the Salton Sea, this year on Feb. 17 and 18.
The two-hour tours will depart from the Salton Sea SRA's Varner Harbor and travel to the Whitewater River Delta to view some of the million of birds that winter at the Salton Sea each year. More than 400 species of birds have been sighted at the sea, California's largest lake. This is almost half of the species of birds that exist in the United States. The Salton Sea has been called the richest example of avian diversity in California.
State park rangers will accompany each tour to provide information about the Salton Sea and general area. Tour participants may also visit the sea and recreation area's Desert Visitor Center and explore trails and beaches within the park. Camping is available for those wishing to spend the weekend. There is a fee of $35 for the tours and reservations are required.
