CHP seeking recruits for senior volunteer program

February 01, 2001

The California Highway Patrol is recruiting people ages 55 and older to join their senior volunteer program.

Eleven volunteers have joined the CHP's El Centro senior volunteer program since its inception in the Imperial Valley in April, according to Highway Patrol Officer Roland Pritchard.

Local CHP organizers would like to recruit six more people for the program, designed especially for active senior citizens who want to give something back to their community.

Applicants will fill out a questionnaire, complete an interview and undergo a background check. Those applicants accepted into the senior volunteer program will be asked to complete some training consisting of a multi-stage driving course and classes on public relations, traffic control, first aid, radio use and how to assist office and field personnel.
