February 02, 2001|By MARIO RENTERÍA, Staff Writer

The Imperial Valley Soccer League adult division finished its season with Boca Juniors as champion.

The final was between Boca Juniors and Napoles on Friday at Swarthout Park in El Centro.

The teams showcased why they made it to the final, with both teams attacking most of the game.

Boca Juniors, however, had more offensive power and scored two goals to win the final. Eduardo Vega and Antonio Terrazas scored Boca Juniors' goals.

Boca Juniors advanced to the final by beating Santos in the semifinal match 3-1, which was played Jan. 24. Edgar Gonzalez scored two and Jorge Vega scored one for Boca Juniors while Osvaldo Rodriguez scored Santos' goal.

Napoles advanced to the final after tying Panteras 0-0 in its semifinal match. A league rule states that in the playoffs if a game ends in a tie the higher-placed team advances to the next round.

The league is starting its next season with one game today.

Juventus and Morelia will open the season at 8 tonight at Swarthout.

On Thursday, Inter F.C. will face Real Madrid while Galaxy will face Boca Juniors. Friday will feature a rematch between Panteras and Napoles and Aguilas facing Santos.

All games are at 8 p.m. at Swarthout. League officials decided to start the league again quickly so the season could be finished before May.

League president Rafael Contreras said Swarthout Park is set to be renovated that month so the season must end by then.

Teams that want to participate can still register by attending one of the games and discussing the matter with the league president, who is at every game.
