The Rev. Ken Cartlidge, pastor of First Baptist Church in El Centro, is moving to the First Baptist Church in Anaheim.

Cartlidge will conduct worship services for the last time here at 10:45 a.m. Sunday. His final sermon is titled "Colliding with Your Destiny" from Ecclesiastes 9:11-12. Following Sunday's service the church is having a carne asada luncheon in his honor.

Cartlidge, who has served at First Baptist for five and a half years, said leaving the people will be the hardest part.

"We have really enjoyed El Centro, the friendliness here, the warm people and the Hispanic culture," Cartlidge said.

During Cartlidge's stay in El Centro he was involved with El Centro Regional Medical Center as a chaplain and served on its bio-ethics committee.

While at the First Baptist Church a Spanish ministry was established. Misión Hispaña, under the leadership of Victor Diaz, meets at the gymnasium at 10 a.m. Sundays. A full-time youth minister, Jeremiah Vik, also was hired.

"I am definitely going to miss Pastor Ken," Vik said. "He was a very good pastor to work under and work with. He was probably the easiest man to work with that I have ever met. He was very supportive.

"I am happy for Ken. I think God is leading him to a good place. The ministry God is leading him to will be blessed because of him," Vik said.
