Former Wildcats to make XFL debut

February 02, 2001

When the XFL makes its debut Saturday it will not be without some local flavor.

Former Brawley Union High School football players Dustin Owen and Brandin Young have earned spots on two XFL teams, while former Brawley resident Jim Skipper is the head coach of the XFL's San Francisco Demons.

Owen, a center who played his college football for Hawaii, will play for the New York/New Jersey Hitmen while Young, a running back from St. Mary's, will play for Skipper in San Francisco.

Owen will take part in the XFL's inaugural game when the Hitmen travel to Las Vegas to take on the Outlaws at 5 p.m. Saturday.
