Youth sports: Hannon selected to all-star team

EL CAJON — Imperial Valley Desert Aquatics swimmer Julia Hannon was selected as a member of the 2001 San Diego-Imperial Swimming all-star team.

Hannon was selected to the squad based on her performance at the San Diego-Imperial qualifying meet held here recently. At the meet Hannon took ninth overall by placing fourth in the 100-yard breaststroke (1 minute, 24.97 seconds), fourth in the 100-yard butterfly (1:20.87) and seventh in the 200-yard individual medley (2:53.15). All three event times were personal bests for Hannon and qualify her for the Junior Olympics in March.


SEELEY — The winners of Saturday's Imperial Valley BMX races were:

Girls — Kiersten Brown (7), Katherine West (10) and Samantha Culp (13).

Cruiser — Cameron Lofgren (10), Juan Carrillo (11), Jason Hatcher (16), Brian Cannon (26-30) and Joel Rebik (36-40).

Novice — Johnathan Butler (5 and under), Nicholas Rodriguez (7), Chad Jackson (9), Steven McFaddin (11) and Lance Johnson (13).


Intermediate — Easton Harrison (5 and under), Chase Westrum (7), Able Minjarez (9), Grant Westrum (11), Derek May (12) and Dagan Burden (14).

Expert — Matthew Martin (6), Michael Wolfe (7), Ian Adame (8), Tony Estrada (9), Cameron Lofgren (10), Juan Carrillo (11), Shayne Godfrey (12), Anthony Cowser (13), Mike Quiroz (15) and Brian Cannon (19-27).
