Man dies after being struck by cabbage truck

CALEXICO — A 67-year-old man died Friday after being struck by a truck carrying cabbage in a field east of here.

Felix Tafoya Garcia was hit by the vehicle and run over by its wheels, said County Coroner's Office Investigator Gary Hayes on Friday.

The incident occurred before 10:46 a.m. Friday near the intersection of Highway 98 and Barbara Worth Road, according to Sheriff's Department records.

Garcia, who had an address in this city but was living in Mexico, was pronounced dead at 11:14 a.m. in the field where he was struck, Hayes said.

The incident is under investigation, Hayes said.

An autopsy was to be performed Saturday, but no additional information was available by presstime Saturday night.
