Soccer: Eagles clip Central 1-0

The Southwest High School girls soccer team slipped past Central 1-0 at Central Union High on Friday.

Diana Lopez scored the lone goal of the game, giving the Eagles their second Imperial Valley League win.

"All the girls played with a lot of heart," said Southwest coach Gilbert Flores.

Flores also complimented the defensive play of Paola Vazquez and Dulce Lopez.

"I'm very proud of the girls' performance," said Central coach Nabil Noujaim. "They played very well."

Both teams return to action at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday. Central will be at Brawley while Southwest (6-8-1, 2-4 IVL) will host Palo Verde.

Calexico 0, Brawley 0

BRAWLEY — The Calexico and Brawley Union girls soccer teams battled to a scoreless tie here Friday.

Brawley goalkeeper Maria Armenta recorded three saves in the contest.

Calexico 2, Brawley 1

CALEXICO — Mario Gallegos and Javier Fregoso each scored a goal to lead the Calexico boys soccer team to a 2-1 win over Brawley Union in IVL action here Friday.

Juan Ruiz scored for the Wildcats off an assist from Raul Cobian.

Both teams will be back on the pitch at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday. Brawley (6-7-4, 3-2-1 IVL) will travel to El Centro to take on Central. Calexico (7-2-5, 5-0-1) will be on the road in Holtville.
