February 07, 2001|By MARIO RENTERÍA, Staff Writer

The Imperial Valley Soccer League open division started its new season Wednesday at Swarthout Park in El Centro with a goal-less game between Juventus and Morelia.

Thursday was quite the opposite. Reigning champion Boca Jr. faced the Galaxy on the north soccer field and won 19-2.

Alberto Vega scored 10 of the 19 goals for Boca Jr., Edgar Gonzalez scored four and Jorge Varela scored two. Dennis Acuña, Jesus Uruarte and Francisco Ositos all scored one.

Moises Garcia scored both Galaxy goals.

That same night Real Madrid and Inter F.C. were set to square off on the south field but the game was postponed because the lights weren't functioning. The game was rescheduled for 7 p.m. Sunday.

Friday's games included a rematch of last season's semifinal between Napoles and Panteras on the south field. Napoles again beat Panteras, this time 4-1.

Aldo Perez and Ignacio Romeo both scored two goals each for Napoles. Juan Banda scored Panteras' only goal.

The second game Friday on the north field featured Santos versus Aguilas, with Santos winning 2-0. Jesus Moreno scored both of Santos' goals.

Two games are set for Wednesday: Santos versus Napoles on the south field and Inter versus Galaxy on the north field.

On Thursday only one game will be played. Morelia will play Boca Jr. on the north field. Friday will feature Panteras versus Juventus on the south field and Real Madrid versus Aguilas on the north field.

Boca Jr., Santos and Napoles are tied for first with three points each, while Juventus and Morelia are tied for second with one point. Panteras, Aguilas and Galaxy are all in last place with zero points. Real Madrid and Inter F.C. have a game pending.

All games are played at 8 p.m., except Sunday's games which are at 7 p.m. All games are at Swarthout.
