50 years ago — Eight Imperial Valley women Wednesday prepared to leave for a tour of Hollywood, a visit to Paramount movie studios and an appearance on television to promote the California Mid-Winter Fair, opening Feb. 24.

40 years ago — Tests on a dog found staggering two miles west of Calexico Jan. 28 show the animal was rabid, Jim Nickell, county rabies control officer, reported today. He warned that all dogs must be licensed and vaccinated.

30 years ago — Produce field workers in the Salinas and Imperial valleys have never seen a Teamsters' contract in spite of produce grower-shipper claims that their contracts with the Teamsters cover their workers, said Marshall Ganz, United Farm Workers leader, in a recent interview.

20 years ago — Brawley resident Mary Poore had the winning recipe Friday in the latest round of carrot competition in the Holtville Carrot Festival. Poore won the $350 first prize for a recipe of chicken and carrots cooked in wine sauce.
