A pretrial hearing was continued until next week for an El Centro man charged with vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated in an Oct. 7 accident that left an Alpine girl dead.

Blake Mostrong, 20, will have a pre-trial hearing in county jail court Tuesday after a hearing Wednesday was continued.

The California Highway Patrol has alleged Mostrong was driving his Volkswagen van with several friends on their way from an all-day desert birthday party Oct. 7.

The van was heading east on Wheeler Road when it struck an off-road golf cart stopped on the dirt road.

Michelle Marie Grady, 17, of Alpine, along with Eric Welter, 19, of San Diego and a 15-year-old San Diego girl, were standing by the golf cart, which reportedly had run out of gas.

Michelle was struck and thrown 107 feet. She died from her injuries.

Welter also was injured. He was treated and released from El Centro Regional Medical Center.

After the crash, the driver of the van and the van's occupants got out of the vehicle. Investigators have alleged Mostrong drove from the scene, leaving the passengers behind.

Friends have said Mostrong went for help, but the van suffered a flat tire three miles away near Imler Road west of Forrester Road. Authorities say Mostrong never called for help.

Mostrong went to the Highway Patrol station in Imperial at 4 the next afternoon, accompanied by an attorney.

Officers took a blood sample from Mostrong. He was arrested, posted bail and was released about 11:30 that night.
