Local cancer society staging annual Daffodil Days flower sale

February 09, 2001

The Imperial County district of the American Cancer Society is staging its annual Daffodil Days flower sale at various locations throughout the Valley.

Nearly 300 volunteers from the Imperial district will be taking donations for the daffodils, which will be available in a bouquet of 10 flowers for $10 or in a cobalt blue vase for $15.

"The Gifts of Hope bouquets are delivered by the American Cancer Society volunteers to patients in local hospitals and treatment centers on the donor's behalf. They are not delivered to specific patients nor are donors' names attached to a gift. Gift of Hope purchases are fully tax-deductible," said Jennie West, Gift of Hope chairwoman.

Daffodil Days co-chairperson Sandra Austin, said, "Orders may be taken by local volunteers or at the American Cancer Society district office, 400 S. 8th St. in El Centro, or by calling 353-6656."

"Last year we raised $36,000 for the American Cancer Society," Austin said, adding this year's goal is $42,000.

"After a cold winter, Daffodil Days brings a touch of spring to the Imperial Valley. Buying flowers is always a pleasurable activity," said Austin. "But buying flowers to fight cancer brings a special reward."

Imperial County district volunteers will offer countywide delivery. Orders must be in by Feb. 23. Delivery begins March 19.

For more information or advanced sales call the American Cancer Society's district office at 352-6656.
