Two community forums scheduled

The public is invited to attend two community forums on air quality and public health in the Imperial and Mexicali valleys.

The forums are being sponsored by the San Diego State University-Imperial Valley campus' California Center for Border and Regional Economic Studies, Instituto de Ingeniería de la Universidad Autónoma de Baja California and the Centro Regional de Estudios Ambientales y Socioeconómicos.

The first forum is set for 6-8 p.m. Feb. 20 in the CANACINTRA building at avenidas Justo Sierra and José Ms. Larroque, Colonia Nueva, Mexicali.

Mexicali panelists will include representatives from the Instituto de Servicios de Salúd del Estado de Baja California and the Instituto de Ingeniería de UABC. Invited panelists include the American Lung Association and the California Air Resources Board.

The second forum is set for 6-8 p.m. Feb. 21 on the SDSU-IV campus, Steppling Art Gallery, 720 Heber Ave., Calexico.

Panelists include representatives from the Instituto de Ingeniería de la UABC. Invited panelists include the American Lung Association, the California Air Resources Board and the Imperial County Public Health Department.

The forums will focus on air quality and health issues in the binational region. Panel discussions will be followed by open discussions. The public will be invited to comment.
