SALTON CITY — California Highway Patrol officers were looking into a crash this morning that left two San Bernardino-area residents with minor injuries.

Diego Estrada, 21, of El Centro was driving south on Highway 86 north of Highway 78, about 1:45 a.m. when his car veered onto the shoulder of the highway, near where a sport-utility vehicle was parked, according to a press release from the Highway Patrol. Estrada was unable to veer back onto the road in time and his car struck the SUV.

Jenny Lane, 22, of Redlands, and Tabitha Nikaido, 14, of San Bernardino were in the SUV and sustained minor injuries. They were taken by ambulance to Pioneers Memorial Hospital in Brawley.

Estrada was not injured.

All involved were wearing seat belts, according to the Highway Patrol.
