SAN DIEGO (AP) — Right-handed reliever Rudy Seanez, coming off ligament replacement surgery, agreed Wednesday to a minor league contract with the San Diego Padres and was invited to spring training.
Seanez missed the last three months of the season following surgery on June 29. He was 2-4 with a 4.29 ERA in 23 appearances for Atlanta.
Seanez, a graduate of Brawley Union High and an El Centro resident, pitched in three games for the Padres in 1993. He is 16-11 with a 4.59 ERA and 10 saves in nine major league seasons with Cleveland, San Diego, Los Angeles and Atlanta.
Seanez's finest big league season was in 1999, when he went 6-1 with a 3.35 ERA and a career-high three saves for the NL champion Braves.
