50 years ago — Jack H. Benson of Brawley was re-elected as president of the El Centro National Farm Loan Association by its directors. The association obtains long-term loans for farmers and ranchers of the Imperial and Yuma valleys.

40 years ago — The "Dollars for Susie" fund has reached $2,300 in money and pledges from the Brawley 20-30 Club. At least $3,100 is needed to save the life of Susie Breashears, 5, who has cancer of the stomach and a heart tumor.

30 years ago — County supervisors this morning approved a zoning ordinance amendment to allow exploratory drilling of geothermal wells anyplace in the county.

20 years ago — Coachella brought a five-man basketball team to Brawley on Tuesday and one fouled out before the end of a 63-46 Desert Valleys League loss to the Wildcats.
