Alfred M. Escobar Jr.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in Hems Bros. Mortuary chapel in El Centro for Alfred M. Escobar Jr., 81, of Imperial, who died Feb. 12 in El Centro Regional Medical Center. Rosary will be said at 7 p.m.

Mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Wednesday in St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Imperial with the Rev. John Baggio officiating.

Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in El Centro.

Mr. Escobar was born Oct. 14, 1919, in San Diego. He was raised by the Obeso family and worked for various agricultural firms in the Imperial Valley for 50 years.

Survivors include his wife, Andrea Escobar of Imperial; brother, Juan Montes of Gilroy; and sisters, Elena Montes of Fresno, Lucy and Sara Montes, both of Gilroy, and Trinidad Montes of Corona.

MATTIE LOU PATE

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in Hems Bros. Mortuary chapel in El Centro for Mattie Lou Pate, 89, of Imperial, who died Tuesday in Valley Convalescent Center in El Centro.

Services will be at noon Wednesday in First Baptist Church in Imperial. Pastor Audrey Fowler will officiate.

Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in El Centro.

Mrs. Pate was born July 23, 1911, in Cata, Okla. She attended schools in Oklahoma. She lived in Casa Grande, Ariz., for a number of years, where she worked as a cook at the county jail. She lived in the Imperial Valley for the past four years and was a midwife and child-care provider.

She was a lifelong member of the Pentecostal Church and longtime missionary for her church.

Survivors include her brother, Luddie Moore of Coolidge, Ariz.; niece, Shirley Jackson of El Centro; sister-in-law, Rosa Johnson of El Centro; and numerous nieces and nephews.
