50 years ago — Holtville Elementary School won the sweepstakes prize for its entry for the fourth annual Carrot Carnival Parade. Students were all in costumes depicting early country life.

40 years ago — A spectacular blaze in a feed mill in Imperial provided entertainment for several hundred curious citizens last night as well as a workout for the Imperial Fire Department. Also endangered were another mill about 30 feet away and a stack of 250 tons of hay.

30 years ago — The 92-bed El Centro Community Hospital, the largest health facility in the Valley, admitted over 50 percent of the patients hospitalized from October to December, according to a study conducted by the Hospital Council of San Diego County.

20 years ago — Obstacles to the long-awaited industrial park in El Centro seem to be rapidly falling by the wayside. Despite President Reagan's proposed cutbacks in funds for the Economic Development Agency, city officials think park construction could begin within a few weeks.
