MOUNTAIN SPRINGS GRADE — The identity of a man killed when he lost control of his motorcycle on Interstate 8 Friday afternoon was released today.

Charles A. Innis, 41, of Imperial Beach was riding his motorcycle east on I-8 in the right lane when his motorcycle began to wobble.

Traveling at a speed of around 55 mph, Innis lost control of his motorcycle as it skidded on its left side into the eastbound lane of traffic, according to a California Highway Patrol press release.

Innis then was struck by an empty tour bus traveling in the left lane. The bus was driven by Alan Everett, 59, of San Diego.

A car, driven by Robert Kendrick, 63, of Los Angeles, was traveling behind the bus and also ran over Innis.

A third vehicle, a sedan driven by Thomas Goldsmith, 57, of Gilbert, Ariz., was in the left lane and also struck Innis.

Though Innis was wearing safety equipment, he was pronounced dead at the scene, the CHP press release states.

An autopsy performed Saturday determined Innis died of multiple traumatic injuries, said county Chief Deputy Coroner Sgt. Rick Macken.

No injuries to any of the other drivers were reported.
