The Imperial Valley Football Coaches Association has set a date for its first-ever all-star game.

The contest, which will pit seniors from local high schools against one another, will be at 7:30 p.m. June 1 at Imperial High School.

The teams will be divided into north and south squads. The north squad will be players from Brawley, Imperial, Holtville and Calipatria. The south team will be players from Calexico, Vincent Memorial, Southwest, Central and West Shores.

The north team will be guided by the Brawley Union High football coaching staff. The south team will be under the direction of the coaches from Calexico High. The coaches will rotate each year on an alphabetical basis.

At halftime the IVFCA will honor its first class of inductees into the Imperial Valley Football Coaches and Players Hall of Fame.

The final night for local schools to nominate players and coaches is March 7. According to the IVFCA's Mike Swearingen, all local schools except two have turned in their nominees.

The IVFCA will host a coaches clinic April 28 at Southwest High in El Centro. The clinic is free for IVFCA members and $25 for all non-members. The clinic is open to all local football coaches, from the Pop Warner level to high school. Speakers will include Esperanza High (Anaheim) head coach Gary Meek and former Imperial Valley College football coach Gary Kollenborn.
