An Oceanside man sustained minor injuries when the vehicle in which he was traveling went out of control on Interstate 8 on Saturday.

Frank Garcia Jr., 19, of Oceanside was driving a sport-utility vehicle east on I-8 west of Dogwood Road at 1:45 a.m. As the vehicle traveled at 80 mph in the left lane, the left rear tire went flat and Garcia lost control of the SUV, according to a California Highway Patrol press release.

The vehicle sideswiped the guardrail and hit the bridge abutment. The vehicle continued out of control across the eastbound lanes and came to rest on the south shoulder of I-8.

Passenger Robert Hester Jr., 20, of Oceanside was transported to El Centro Regional Medical Center with minor injuries. Information on his condition was unavailable today.
