El Centro man injured in off-road dunes collision

HEBER DUNES — An El Centro man sustained major injuries Sunday when the off-road vehicle he was driving collided with another vehicle.

According to a California Highway Patrol press release, Justin Botello, 22, was driving an all-terrain vehicle west up a large sand hill when the vehicle jumped and landed on top of the hill, striking a second vehicle broadside.

Botello was transported to El Centro Regional Medical Center where he was treated and transferred to another hospital. An ECRMC spokeswoman did not know where he was transferred.

The driver of the second vehicle, Osvaldo Martinez, 25, and his two passengers, Jose Manuel Soto, 24, and Noemi Soto, 21, all of El Centro, were not injured in the accident.

All four people were wearing safety equipment.

The collision is under investigation.
