Voice: What are editors, others doing to save lives of undocumented?

February 27, 2001

Walter Tylenda of Calexico, who had a letter in the Imperial Valley Press on Feb. 22, reminds me of the Germans when they tried to justify the killing of 6 million Jews. It makes sense also that the only sure way to stop these kids from crossing is to build sharpshooter towers on the border and shoot each one dead if he tries to cross. And believe me, there are people who agree. It is good the majority of the people in Imperial County do not agree. I don't believe anyone should die crossing our borders.

I also question the editor in "Our Opinion" of Feb. 22. Has he ever interviewed smugglers or the undocumented? How does he know what they will do? Has he swum in our Valley canals, in the All-American? Does the editor realize time is running and victims keep increasing? What has the editor come up with to save lives? What has anyone done to save lives?

As John Hunter commented, "All you people do is talk while people are dying. You have been talking for two years and have done nothing. I believe in action and I will start doing something." He has. Have you?

This editor is completely assuming.
