Elizalde wins in Poway

IMPERIAL — The Imperial Junior Wrestling Club hosted a tournament here Sunday.

In the rookie division El Centro's Alonzo Osuna (45 pounds) took first as did Imperial's Jazz Suazo, Joe John Guizar, Ryan Strickell and Armando de la Rosa. Imperial's D.J. Hanna took second and Timothy Lovio was third.

In the bantam division Imperial's Junior Lara took first. El Centro Junior Wrestling Club got firsts from Tony Ramos (50) and D.J. Romero (51.7). El Centro's Marc Smith (55) took second, Imperial's Quinten Likos finished third. El Centro's Chris Corral (55) and Joe Anthony Alvarez (60) finished fifth.

In the midget class El Centro's Alfonso Osuna (60) took first. Imperial's Brian Quihuis was second, Uriel Navarro third and Andrew Bush fourth.


In the novice class El Centro's Angel Romero (112) took first and Imperial's Ulysses Rodriguez was third.

In the schoolboy division Imperial's Raymond Elizalde and Anthony Elizalde each took second as did El Centro's Ricardo Beltran (110). El Centro's Jason Rangel (110), Ricardo Miramontes (140) and Brandon Granahan (150) were third. Imperial's James Smith and Derrick Wilson were fourth as was El Centro's Hector Gomez (heavyweight).

In the cadet class Imperial's Chris Vasquez took second.

Nothin' But Net

El Centro's Nothin' But Net youth basketball league completed another week of play.

In the boys division the Dragons downed Duke 25-22, the Hawks knocked off the Lakers 31-23, the Bruins pounded the Kings 68-13, UCLA slipped past Above Average 29-28, the Jazz stopped the Raptors 2 18-16 and the Raptors 1 crushed the Perfect Event 78-8.

In the girls division the Sparks topped the Hoop Stars 29-8, the Lady Raptors stopped the Stars 36-13 and the Lady Hawks topped the Tar Heels 22-10.
