Spartans split meet with La Quinta

LA QUINTA — The Central Union High School track team split a meet with La Quinta here Thursday.

The Spartan boys won 74-53 while the girls fell 97-28 in both teams' opener.

Robert Guieb led the Central boys by taking first in three events. He won the 3,200 (5 minutes, 2 seconds) and 800 (2:13.14) and along with John Valdez, Mike Garcia and Alfredo Gonzalez won the 4x400 relay.

The Spartans also got firsts from J.D. Gaddis in the 300 hurdles (44.78), Valdez in the 400 (57.96), Jerrel Henderson in the high jump (5 feet 8 inches) and Pedro Caro in the 3,200 (11:00.72).

Central also won the 4x100 relay (46.34) with a team comprised of Jerrel Henderson, Eric Henderson, Anthony Sabal and Anthony Hellum.

The Spartan girls lone first came from Sonya Ramos, who won the shot put (26-1/2).

Central got second from Victoria Flores in the 1,600 (6:39.02) and 3,200 (14:04.7) and Allison Valdez in the 300 hurdles (59.51).
