Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday in Hems Bros. Mortuary chapel in El Centro for Ted Cruz, 74, of El Centro, who died Thursday in his home. Rosary will be at 7 p.m.

Mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Tuesday in Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in El Centro with the Rev. Jaime Escobar officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in El Centro.

Mr. Cruz was born Feb. 27, 1927, in Douglas, Ariz. He married Maria Rodriguez on Aug. 28, 1952, in Yuma.

He was an Imperial Valley resident for more than 60 years. He retired from Douthitt Steel as a supervisor after working there for 43 years.

Mr. Cruz was a World War II veteran who served in the U.S. Army, and he was a member of the Imperial County Sheriff's Reserve. He also was a hunting and safety instructor.


He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Lavette Cruz, and a son-in-law, Joe Tabarez.

Mr. Cruz is survived by his wife, Maria "Rosa" Cruz of El Centro; son, Theodore Cruz Jr. and his wife, Helen, of Escondido; daughter and son-in-law, Rosemary and Raymond Singh of El Centro; daughter, Martha Tabarez of El Centro; brother and sister, Manuel Cruz and Rosie Cruz, both of Fresno; grandchildren, Tony, Martha "Mona," Kelly, Sean and Kimberly Cruz, Rosie "Nikki" Singh, Veronica Tabarez Amparano, and Chrissy and Paul Tabarez; 14 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.


Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday in Frye Chapel and Mortuary in Brawley for Calvin Earl Davis, 67, of Westmorland, who died Thursday in Scripps Hospital in La Jolla.

A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the funeral home with the Rev. Michael Lasky of the Brawley Assembly of God officiating. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery in Brawley.

Mr. Davis was born April 17, 1933, in Lamar, Mo. He married Mary Ellen Murphy on Oct. 10, 1952, in Tiskilwa, Ill.

Mr. Davis and his wife moved to the Imperial Valley from Princeton, Ill., in 1954. He worked as a beekeeper for 47 years. His family said he enjoyed his family and spending time with his grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his sisters, Emma Mae Davis, Thelma King, Judith Ann Davis and Dolly Jean Davis.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Davis of Westmorland; sons and daughters-in-law, Donald and Aleta Davis of Imperial, and Ronald and Melody Davis of Westmorland; brothers, Leonard Davis of Missouri, Virgil Davis of Monett, Mo., Orla Davis Jr. of St. James, Mo., and Robert Davis of Grandview, Mo.; sisters, Helen Finn of Stark City, Mo., Rozella Marsh of Springfield, Mo., and Eunice Minor of Monett; and his grandchildren, Kimberly Davis of Imperial and Tyler and Trevor Davis of Westmorland.
