Pauline McConnell and Mona Locher, both of El Centro, made it two in a row Saturday by winning first and second place respectively in the 2001 California Mid-Winter Fair & Fiesta's first two one-day contests.
On Saturday, McConnell won $50 and Locher $25 for making the best homemade ice cream. Both women made Irish cream ice cream.
On Friday, McConnell and Locher placed in the same order for that day's contest, "Favorite Drop Cookies."
McConnell's "Cookie Dough Truffles" took first and Locher's "Double Chocolate Chewies" was judged in second place. Diana Randolph, also of El Centro, took third prize with her "Cheery Cherry Drops."
Marty Dineley of Imperial was Sunday's first-place winner. Dineley won $50 for her "California Chicken Enchiladas" entry in the "Fiesta of Enchiladas" contest. Dianna Randolph of El Centro won second place, taking home $25 in prize money. Locher continued her winning ways, placing third in the contest for a $15 prize.
