Press adds ‘Secret School' as new weekly feature

The Imperial Valley Press is pleased to announce the addition of a new weekly feature as part of this newspaper's continuing efforts in support of literacy.

Today's Youth page will introduce the first chapter of "The Secret School," written by Avi and illustrated by Brian Floca. It is part of the Breakfast Serials series.

The book will appear in serial form each Tuesday for the next 18 weeks.

The book's author, Avi, is the recipient of two Newbury Honors, a Horn Book Award, the Odell Award and the Christopher Award. He is known for his wide stylistic range and prolific literary skills. Five of Avi's books will be published in 2001.

Brian Floca is the author and illustrator of three picture books: "Dinosaurs at the Ends of the Earth," "Five Trucks" and "The Frightful Story of Harry Walfish." He has illustrated four of Avi's books.

Educators are encouraged to use and enjoy these installments with their students in the classroom.
