Hector R. Valenzuela

A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 4 p.m. Friday in Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Calexico for Hector R. Valenzuela, 54, of Calexico, who died of a heart attack Friday in his home. The Revs. Barry Vinyard and Edmundo Zarate of Calexico will officiate.

Mr. Valenzuela was born Nov. 16, 1946, in Calexico, where he was raised. He graduated from Calexico High School and from Imperial Valley College. He married Olivia Luquin in Heber on Nov. 25, 1972.

Mr. Valenzuela served as a volunteer for the SHARE food distribution program for many years and worked for Catholic Charities at its homeless shelter in Calexico.

He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and Our Lady of Guadalupe parish.

Survivors include his wife, Olivia Valenzuela of Calexico; brothers, Larry and Armando Valenzuela, both of Calexico; and sons, Alejandro and Benjamin Valenzuela, both of San Diego.



Funeral services will be at noon Thursday in Full Gospel Church in Brawley for Thelma H. Willingham, 86, of Lancaster, a former Imperial Valley resident who died Sunday in Lancaster.

Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery in Brawley.

Mrs. Willingham was born Aug. 22, 1914, in Oklahoma.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leon "Hoss" Willingham on Feb. 11, 1985.

Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Patsy and Burl Robinson of Winterhaven and Norma Lee and Bob Allen of Lancaster; sons and daughters-in-law, Bill and Shirley Willingham of Orcutt and Darrel and Brenda Willingham of Bullhead City, Ariz.; and seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
