IMPERIAL — Marna Sanders of Imperial had a worthwhile rainy day Tuesday by taking first place and a $50 top prize in the California Mid-Winter Fair & Fiesta's one day contest, "Favorite Salsa and Chips."
Sanders' "Tangy Texas Salsa" beat Marty Dineley's second-place "Sassy Salsa." Dineley won a $25 prize.
Placing third with a $15 prize was Mona Locher and her "Real Good Salsa."
It was the second consecutive day that Dineley and Locher have finished second and third respectively in the contest.
Locher has placed in every one-day contest since the fair opened Friday.
The one-day contests are staged every day of the fair. Participants receive free entry to the fair on the day of their contest. They must bring their dish and recipe to the Lifestyles building prior to each day's contest.
"Favorite Cheesecakes" will be tonight's theme and the contest Thursday will feature "Favorite Breakfast Dishes." "Imperial Valley Salads" will be the theme for Friday's contest and "Favorite Crockpot Dishes" will be featured Saturday.
