An El Centro man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after he allegedly hit a woman on the head with a coat hangar Tuesday, according to El Centro police officials.

Marvin Beck, 59, was booked into the county jail with his bail set at $100,000 in connection with the incident.

In a twist to the story, it was Beck who called police shortly before 7 p.m. Tuesday, stating he had just arrived to his home in the 1200 block of Olive Ave. Beck reported he had seen a woman leaving his residence.

Beck also told police the woman had headed west on Olive, according to El Centro police Lt. Paul Longoria, who added police at that time were treating the case as a possible burglary.

Police found a woman, Lisa Montañez, walking a block away from the house. She was bleeding from the head and reported she had neck pain.

Longoria said Montañez had a different story.

She alleged she and Beck were having a dispute over some money that Beck owed her. She reported that Beck struck her with a coat hanger.

Longoria said he could not release further details because the case is under investigation.

"There are some aspects of both stories that still need to be clarified," Longoria said.

Montañez was taken to the El Centro Regional Medical Center. Her status was not available at presstime.
