Southwest golfers beat Calexico

HOLTVILLE — The Southwest High golf team remained undefeated with a 424-513 win over Calexico High at the Barbara Worth Golf Resort here Thursday.

Medalist for the Eagles was Ty Yturralde with a 78, followed by Cameron Butcher's 84 and Matt Mouser's 86. Trevor Tagg and Bobby Kirby chipped in 88s for Southwest.

For the Bulldogs it was Richard Ortega with an 84, Phillip Cheng shooting a 98 and Edgar Uribe carding a 106. Eric Uribe added a 112 and Marco Page rounding things out with a 113.

Southwest will host Indio at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Barbara Worth.

Coachella 223, Brawley 224

PALM SPRINGS — The Brawley Union High golf team narrowly lost 223-224 to Coachella High at the PGA West golf course here Thursday.

Leading the Wildcats was Jorden Tucker shooting a 38 on the par 36 course. Garrett Fargo carded a 43 followed by Michael Quick's 46. Milas Russell added a 48 and Adam Schmitt rounded things out with a 49 for Brawley (2-1).

The Wildcats Varsity B team had no trouble with Coachella hammering it 240-349.

Leading the Varsity B were Ryan Mamer and Brian Gelesko each shooting 43s.

La Quinta 210, Central 221

BORREGO SPRINGS — The Central Union High golf team lost 221-210 to La Quinta at the Borrego Springs Golf Resort here Wednesday.

Leading the Spartans on the nine-hole course was Mario Luna with a 38 followed by Ivan Haro's 40. Beau Carson shot a 44 with Fernie Lynn chipping in a 48 and Adam Moler adding a 51 for Central (0-4).

The Spartans next play Palo Verde at 1 p.m. Monday at the Blythe Country Club.

Boys tennis

Central 10, La Quinta 8

LA QUINTA — The Central Union High School boys tennis team kicked off the season with a 10-8 win over La Quinta here Thursday.

No. 1 singles player Tony Avila and No. 2 Ricky Montero each picked up three points for the Spartans with No. 3 Sam Kim adding another point.

No. 1 doubles Leo Alvarado and Peter Barthelme rounded out the scoring going undefeated for Central (1-0).

The Spartans play at 3:15 p.m. Wednesday at Coachella.
